May was chosen for the south west wedding of Evan and Carmel because of the the wonderful autumn colours in the vineyards. The vines autumn leaves were a reminder of the vineyards of France, where Carmel and Evan decided to get married. As so often happens with the weddings in the south west, the wedding day turns into a week long wedding festival. Carmel and Even’s wedding was a celebration in the true sense. Family, friends and children were included in the trip south to the Margaret River region for the wedding.
The day before the wedding we arrived to make sure there were no nasty surprises waiting for us at the locations we wanted to use on the wedding day. As we sat in our car at the ocean we watched the effects of the howling wind, the black clouds rolling in and eventually the battering from the pouring rain, we could only hope for some improvement in the weather for the wedding day!
Thankfully the weather improved and the sun was shining when we arrived to photograph Carmel, her parents and attendants in the spacious rooms of Basildene Manor. Basildene is ideal for wedding parties, the rooms are spacious and the grounds are lush making it an easy and elegant back drop for wonderful wedding photographs.
We met up with Evan and the groomsmen at Saint John’s, a traditional looking Greek Orthodox Chapel in Prevelly. It’s situated on a hill overlooking the torquise waters of the Indian Ocean. With the white wash rendered chapel and the blue skies and waters you can almost imagine you’re on a Greek island!
After the hugs, kisses and congratulations around the chapel we headed off with the bridal party to the ocean. The weather was a complete contrast to the previous day when we took shelter in the car. The bridal party came well prepared with champagne and nibbles to add to the picnic atmosphere at the beach. The result was fabulous looking relaxed wedding photographs.
We headed back to the autumn coloured vineyards at Leeuwin Estate. We captured exquisite wedding photographs among the vines and open pastures.
Once again, it was such a thrill to be witness to the love and warmth shared by family and friends on a wedding day.
