Perth’s Greek Wedding

Perth’s Greek Wedding

quality wedding photography perthVariety is what we love about wedding photography in Perth! One week we’ll be in the South West taking exquisite wedding photographs along the fantastic coast line, the next in Perth photographing a Chinese Tea Ceremony, a month later we’ll be among the vineyards for a Margaret River wedding and then in a magnificent Greek Orthodox Church.

When we met up with Ereyan and Tim four weeks prior to their wedding for a chat about locations and what were the important aspects to them about their wedding, “family” was what stood out. It was important to Tim and Ereyan that we capture the family atmosphere at their wedding celebration. They were also keen for us to stay at the reception for the evening to capture the speakers and the reactions to the speeches as well as the amazing Greek dancing.

When we arrived at Ereyan’s family home on the morning of their wedding there was a buzz to the atmosphere. Ereyan was well organised and was ready to be dressed in her bridal gown from Tuscany Bridal. Her hair by Terry Clark and makeup by Linsi looked sensational. Everything was running to time! We captured sensational bridal photographs of Ereyan, and Ereyan and her parents at their home.

Tim and Ereyan were married by the Rev. Emmaunuel Stamatiou at the magnificent Greek Orthodox Church in Carr Street West Perth. And we met up with Tim and his family at the church about 30 minutes before Ereyan was due to arrive. There was an atmosphere of anticipation. Until relatively recently the Greek Orthodox Ceremonies were conducted in  the Greek language. I would often wonder if the Australian born couples would know what they were promising. However recently I’ve listened to the ceremony conducted in English and not so surprisingly all wedding couples from various cultural and religious back grounds are making the same promises. After the ceremony every guest congratulates the newly married couple inside the church on the alter. After the congratulations the excited guests wait outside the church to shower the couple in money, sugar coated almonds and rice, accompanied by many good wishes and much merriment. Of course all through the celebrations and congratulation Peter and I are madly shooting wonderful candid wedding photographs.

The Ballroom at the Sheraton was styled by Helen who also created the wonderful bouquets and reception arrangements on the day. The speeches, which I always love to hear, were a source of much laughter, which of course Peter was capturing. The Greek dancing is a true celebrations of the couples wedding and everyone becomes involved, from the very oldest to the very youngest. Upon their departure Ereyan and Tim were surrounded by their families and given hearty goodbye hugs and kisses. The next day Tim and Ereyan flew out of Perth to honeymoon in Europe and the USA.
